Jodie Harrison MP, Member for Charlestown, has recognised two outstanding seniors, Mr John Hoskin and Mrs Jennie Brice, with a 2026 Local Senior of the Year Award in honour of their valuable contribution to the Charlestown electorate.
Jennie, aged 94, was recognised for her decades of dedicated service to the community through the Country Women’s Association (CWA). A member of the Belmont Branch since 1994, Jennie has held numerous leadership and patronage roles and continues to actively support the organisation by welcoming new members, officiating at events, and helping with set-up and clean-up.
John, aged 69, was recognised for his long-standing commitment to archery and his significant voluntary contributions to the local community. Since moving locally in 2017, John has volunteered extensively with Westlakes Archers, mentoring students at the international level and running regular beginners’ archery coaching sessions to club members and the wider community.
The awards were one of many highlights of this year’s NSW Seniors Festival, held from 2-15 March 2026. Nearly 50 NSW Government-run and sponsored events took place across the state, celebrating and supporting older people through activities designed especially for our senior community.
The festival, now in its 68th year, is a key initiative in the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to celebrating seniors as well as helping them keep active and engaged with their community.
