Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to recognise Alex Croft for his outstanding leadership and commitment to raising awareness of mental health through the Push-Up Challenge at St Mary's Catholic College Gateshead. After losing his father at the age of 12, Alex has shown remarkable courage in turning personal adversity into positive action. Four years later, as a Year 11 student, he has taken the lead in encouraging his school community to support mental health awareness and wellbeing. The Push-Up Challenge is a nationwide initiative that aims to educate Australians about mental health while raising funds for vital support services, including Lifeline and headspace. Participants are challenged to complete 3,307 push-ups between 3 and 26 June, representing the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2024. Under Alex's leadership, students at St Mary's embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, with the cohort collectively completing an impressive 9,800 push-ups. Importantly, Alex recognised that the challenge is about more than physical activity. By encouraging participation, he has helped create opportunities for meaningful conversations about mental health among young people and within friendship groups. I commend his efforts and thank him for helping break down stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health.
