Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Students at Charlestown East Public School are preparing to share the stories of their school community through the creation of their very own newspaper, the Charlestown East Voice. The project was developed by student Sienna Boog, whose hand-drawn draft included sections for school news, fun facts about the school community and a space for students to create their own comics. The Charlestown East Voice was selected as one of four recipients of a Canon Oceania Grant. The school will receive $5,000 in support, including student-friendly Canon cameras to help bring the newspaper to life. The project has already inspired plenty of enthusiasm among the young reporters. Year 4 student Felix Tweedie has been spending his free time creating iMovie videos and interviewing friends about what is happening at school, and is particularly excited about writing for the newspaper. Isla Fife-Jackson is looking forward to putting her photography skills to good use, while Indiana De Leye is eager to interview the school's teacher of the month. Congratulations to Sienna and all the students involved in this wonderful initiative. The Charlestown East Voice will give students a creative way to build new skills and celebrate their community.
