Christopher Piggott

13 November 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to formally congratulate Christopher Piggott on receiving Life Membership of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, the Guild's most prestigious national honour. Christopher and his wife Shirley met while studying Pharmacy at Sydney University before moving to Newcastle, where they purchased their first pharmacy in Blackbutt in 1970 from Mr Borthwick. With Shirley eight months pregnant, they lived above the pharmacy for three years, sharing duties in dispensing, management and parenting. When Charlestown Square opened in 1979, Christopher opened a Soul Pattinson Pharmacy that became one of the busiest in the Hunter region. Throughout his career, Christopher became a well-known and respected member of the community, appearing regularly on local radio and television. He and Shirley raised four children, three of whom later became pharmacists themselves. The family continues the legacy through Piggott's Pharmacy, which today operates in several locations under the leadership of their children. This year marks 55 years of service to the community. I had the privilege of seeing Christopher receive his Life Membership at the New South Wales Parliament, and I congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition of a lifetime of dedication to patient care and community health.
