Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to congratulate Dr Heather Murray on being selected for the 2026 Newcastle Permanent Innovators Program, an initiative that supports emerging medical researchers working to address some of the Hunter region's most pressing health challenges. Delivered by the Hunter Medical Research Institute in partnership with Newcastle Permanent, the six-week program helps researchers transform promising ideas into practical solutions that can improve and save lives. Dr Murray is one of six researchers selected for this year's program and is undertaking important work to improve cancer treatment outcomes through more precise and personalised therapies. Her research focuses on acute myeloid leukaemia, an aggressive and difficult-to-treat blood cancer that continues to present significant challenges for patients and clinicians alike. Through her potentially life-saving research, Dr Murray is developing precision therapies that target the unique biology of leukaemia cells, with the aim of overcoming treatment resistance and improving patient outcomes. Dr Murray's selection reflects the outstanding calibre of medical research being undertaken in our region and highlights the Hunter's growing reputation as a leader in health and medical innovation. I congratulate Dr Murray on this achievement and wish her every success in her future research.
