Fernleigh 15

22 October 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Last weekend saw the return of the Fernleigh 15, bringing together runners, walkers and rollers from across the region to take on the 15-kilometre journey from Adamstown to Belmont. Beginning in Adamstown, participants set off along the Fernleigh Track, which was closed to the public for the event. The former rail corridor provided a peaceful and scenic route through bushland and historic tunnels, offering an ideal setting for the challenge. The starting line buzzed with energy and anticipation as hundreds of people of all abilities came together to enjoy the event. From competitive runners to casual walkers, everyone shared in the sense of achievement that comes with completing one of the Hunter's most iconic community events. Supporters lined the track, cheering participants on and creating a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere. I'd like to recognise Reuben Swain, who placed 13th with an impressive time of 53 minutes and 34 seconds, and Jack Read-Jones, who finished close behind in 14th place with a time of 53 minutes and 45 seconds. The Fernleigh 15 continues to grow each year, celebrating community spirit, fitness and connection, and highlighting the importance of the Fernleigh Track as a shared space for recreation and wellbeing.
