Fernleigh 15

22 October 2026

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—The Fernleigh 15 has once again brought our community together for a wonderful celebration of fitness, friendship and community spirit, with a record 2,300 participants taking part in this year's event. With participation increasing by 30 per cent from last year, the 2026 Fernleigh 15 welcomed runners from across Newcastle, the Hunter, Central Coast and beyond. While the event attracts elite athletes, its greatest strength lies in its welcoming atmosphere, bringing together runners of all ages and abilities to enjoy one of our region's most treasured shared pathways. Beyond the finish line, participants raised approximately $15,000 for charitable causes, while event organisers donated a further $10,000 to the local clubs and organisations that helped make the day possible. Community groups including Newcastle Runners, 530 Runners, Night Striders and Charlestown Rotary Club play an invaluable role in the event's ongoing success. The Fernleigh 15 also provides an important opportunity to promote the safe and respectful use of the Fernleigh Track by everyone who enjoys it. I congratulate the organisers, volunteers and participants on another fantastic event that showcases the generosity, camaraderie and community spirit of our region.
