26 May 2026

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Hunter Sports High School has achieved an extraordinary milestone, with both the Boys Open and Girls Open Water Polo teams crowned State Champions in a historic first for the school. This remarkable achievement reflects the hard work, determination, and teamwork shown by every student throughout the season. To see both teams reach the top of the state competition in the same year is a testament to the strong sporting culture and dedication fostered within the school community. The Boys Open Water Polo team demonstrated exceptional skill and composure throughout the competition to secure the state title, with Phoenix Irvine recognised as Player of the Final for his outstanding performance. The Girls Open Water Polo team also delivered an incredible campaign, earning the title of State Champions through determination and teamwork. LeiAnne Heffernan was deservedly named Player of the Final following an exceptional display in the championship match. These victories are not only a proud moment for the students and coaching staff, but also for the whole school community. I congratulate every player, coach, staff member and supporter involved in this outstanding achievement and wish these talented young athletes every success in the future.
