Karen Partington

18 November 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I'd like to recognise Karen Partington, who received the Woman of Distinction Award in the Regional and Rural category at the 2025 Ministers' Awards for Women in Local Government. Karen has built an impressive career over almost twenty-five years at Lake Macquarie City Council. She began as a cashier collecting land rates and dog registrations and has since taken on key roles in strategic land use planning, infrastructure, environmental systems and asset management. Through dedication, integrity and a strong commitment to public service, she has risen to become the Acting Director Planning for the Future. This recognition reflects Karen's initiative and innovation, as well as the positive influence she has on her colleagues. Her leadership, professionalism and support for others have made her a valued and respected figure within Council. Karen also played a key role in establishing Spark, a networking group for women at Council, and she continues to encourage more women to pursue non-traditional roles. Her work and influence are appreciated across the Charlestown electorate and the wider Lake Macquarie region, where her contribution has helped strengthen and inspire our community. I congratulate Karen on this well-deserved achievement and thank her for her service.
