Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—For 120 years, Lake Macquarie City Council has played an important role in shaping our community. Through the dedication of elected representatives, staff and community leaders, Council has helped deliver the infrastructure, services and public spaces that support the daily lives of residents in our area. This year marks 120 years since Lake Macquarie was formally proclaimed as a shire. Council has since evolved alongside the community it serves, responding to changing needs and helping guide the city through periods of growth, challenge and transformation. From its first elected Council in 1906, to those who serve the community today, generations of councillors and staff have worked to help make Lake Macquarie a vibrant and thriving city. Lake Macquarie was declared a municipality in 1977 and became a city in 1984, reflecting its growth and significance within the Hunter region. As Lake Macquarie City Council celebrates this milestone, it is an opportunity to acknowledge the many elected representatives, staff, volunteers and community members who have contributed to 120 years of service. I congratulate Lake Macquarie City Council on this significant anniversary and thank all those who have helped shape our city over the past century and beyond.
