Liam Blair

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I'd like to recognise Liam Blair from Warners Bay High School for his outstanding result at the Coolangatta Gold Youth Challenge over the weekend. Liam competed against 50 of the strongest Under 13 athletes from surf clubs across Australia, taking on a demanding course that included a 200 metre run, 350 metre swim, 550 metre soft-sand run, 450 metre board paddle and a final 300 metre sprint. It is an impressive effort on its own to complete the event, but to finish first for the third year in a row is an incredible achievement. What stands out most about Liam's performance is not just the result, but the commitment behind it. His determination, consistency and willingness to put in the hard work have clearly paid off. Liam's achievement is also a credit to his family, coaches and club community who have supported his development. As we head into the warmer months, it is wonderful to see young people building strong surf awareness and water confidence. Liam's involvement in surf lifesaving sport is a great example of the benefits of being active and safe around the beach. I congratulate Liam on this well-earned result and wish him continued success.
