Newcastle Northstars

15 August 2024

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—The mighty Newcastle Northstars are just one win away from the Australian Ice Hockey League grand final after a commanding 9-2 win over the Melbourne Mustangs at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium on Saturday, 10 August. It was my honour to drop the ceremonial puck—and once the game got underway, I saw the Northstars dominate the ice. Though the Mustangs took the first goal, the Northstars roared back, securing a 5-1 lead by the second stanza. Star forward Francis Drolet scored four goals, Wehebe Darge two more, with Shane Southwood, Kyler Matthews and Patrick Nadin taking one each. It was a great match and a lot of fun to watch. Despite the size of the win, the intensity of the game led to a few nailbiting moments. Congratulations to the Northstars. Their next match is on Saturday 24 August—after that, it's straight on to the grand finals. Here's to great wins for the Northstars!
