Peta Salter

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Peta Salter's strength, courage and determination are an inspiration to our local rugby community and well beyond it. Following a diagnosis of terminal brain cancer in 2023, Peta made the remarkable decision to return to the rugby field with Merewether Carlton while still undergoing chemotherapy. Faced with an unimaginably difficult diagnosis, Peta wanted to spend her time doing something she genuinely loves – playing footy. Since returning, Peta has continued to achieve at an extraordinary level, representing the Hunter women's side and earning selection in the NSW Country Corellas. Most recently, she helped lead Merewether Carlton to the Hunter Rugby Union women's grand final, an achievement made even more special by the support of the teammates and club community who have stood alongside her. Peta has given so much to rugby in our region as a player, representative and former Hunter Wildfires captain. Her determination to keep doing what brings her joy, surrounded by the people and sport she loves, speaks volumes about who she is. Peta, our community is incredibly proud of you and can't wait to see what you achieve next.
