Press Play

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—It was a pleasure to attend Tantrum Youth Arts' production of PRESS PLAY as part of the 2026 New Annual Festival, celebrating 50 years of this wonderful organisation. Originally established in Charlestown in 1976 as 2 Til 5 Youth Theatre, Tantrum Youth Arts has spent five decades providing opportunities for young people to explore their creativity, develop confidence, build connections and engage with the performing arts. PRESS PLAY brought together 50 young actors for an imaginative and interactive performance, taking audiences on a playful journey through a reimagined history of the organisation. With just 50 minutes to premiere their show, the young performers navigated a series of unexpected twists and turns, with audience members using buttons and technology to influence the action on stage. The production was a fantastic showcase of the creativity, collaboration and talent of young performers, while highlighting the important role Tantrum Youth Arts has played in our local arts community over the past five decades. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this unique production to life, and to Tantrum Youth Arts on this significant milestone. I look forward to seeing the organisation continue to inspire young people for many years to come.
