Professor Aaron Sverdlov

15 September 2026

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Professor Aaron Sverdlov is putting his heart into improving cardiovascular care for people living in regional and rural communities across New South Wales. Based at the University of Newcastle, Professor Sverdlov has recently received $748,104 in NSW Government funding to explore cancer drug combinations that can fight tumours while also protecting patients' hearts. This important work recognises the cardiovascular risks that can accompany cancer treatment and aims to deliver better outcomes for patients facing complex health challenges. Professor Sverdlov and his team will also establish a telehealth cardio-oncology service in Maitland and Tamworth. The service will help patients in regional and rural NSW access timely, specialised cardiovascular care without the additional burden of travelling long distances for appointments. Professor Sverdlov's work demonstrates the extraordinary calibre of health and medical research taking place at the University of Newcastle. Congratulations to Professor Sverdlov and his team on receiving this significant funding, and thank you for their commitment to developing practical, locally informed solutions that will improve health outcomes across regional NSW and our community.
