Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—At 96 years of age, Emeritus Professor Alan Roberts continues to prove that a passion for learning, teaching and discovery has no expiry date. A world leader in the field of bulk solids for more than seven decades, Professor Roberts has released his first comprehensive book covering the fundamentals of the discipline. His work examines how materials can be effectively handled according to their individual properties and external conditions, with important applications across engineering and industry. Professor Roberts retired as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Newcastle in 1993, but his contribution to research and education has continued throughout the three decades since. Over his remarkable career, he has authored or co-authored six design manuals, 13 book chapters and more than 600 research papers, sharing an extraordinary depth of knowledge with generations of engineers. In 1992, Professor Roberts was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to mechanical engineering. His latest publication adds another outstanding achievement to his career. Congratulations to Professor Alan Roberts on the release of his new book, and thank you for his enduring contribution to engineering, research and the University of Newcastle community.
