Sexual Assault Round Table

23 September 2026

Ms LIESL TESCH (Gosford) (12:16): My question is addressed to the Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Will the good Minister please update the House on the outcomes of the sexual assault round table earlier this month?

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault) (12:17): I thank the member for Gosford. The round table was a really important step in the Government's response to address the concerning rates of sexual violence in this State. Certainly, the alleged rapes by young people of other young people that we heard about in the lead‑up to it were really concerning. The round table brought together victim-survivors, school leaders and various experts throughout the community.

The outcomes from the round table talked about increasing respectful relationships education across our schools and supporting parents, carers and other trusted adults to have conversations with young people. These are really difficult conversations. Parents need help, and we must improve responses to misogyny online and advance evidence-based prevention. We have already seen the Federal Government bring in the digital duty of care legislation, which is great. We will continue to do the work to bring down the rates of sexual violence in New South Wales, because our kids really deserve it.
