Shelby Candian

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I rise to recognise the inspiring work of Shelby Candian, a passionate local physiotherapist who has turned her lifelong love of dance into a thriving business helping young performers stay healthy and strong. A former student of Kotara High School, a former ballerina with Northcott Dance, and a proud graduate of the University of Newcastle, Shelby has combined her personal experience and professional expertise to create something truly special for our community. After training and gaining valuable experience in larger physiotherapy practices, Shelby saw a gap in the market and bravely took the leap to launch her own business. In August last year, Shelby opened Newcastle Dance Physiotherapy in Adamstown, offering specialist physiotherapy services with a focus on injury prevention for dancers and performers. Shelby has worked with leading ballet brands such as Bloch and completed additional training with The Australian Ballet's physiotherapy team. Her clinic also offers innovative services such as pre-pointe assessments to help young dancers prepare safely and confidently. Through her work keeping dancers safe, strong and performing at their best, Shelby is helping the arts continue to thrive in our community.
