St Therese's Primary School

18 November 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I'd like to recognise St Therese's Primary School in New Lambton, which is celebrating an extraordinary milestone of 100 years of education and community in the Hunter. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy on 1 November 1925, St Therese's has evolved from a small local school into a thriving and well-regarded learning environment. When former principal Duilio Rufo began his tenure in 2000, the school had around 200 students. By the time he finished in 2023, enrolments had grown to more than 600, reflecting the school's strong reputation and the commitment of its staff, students and families. To mark the centenary, the school hosted a liturgy led by Bishop Michael, followed by old-time games and a community picnic. These celebrations brought together generations of families, alumni and supporters, highlighting the deep connection so many people have with the school. For a century, St Therese's has played an important role in New Lambton, providing a supportive environment where young people can learn, grow and feel part of a strong community. I congratulate St Therese's on this remarkable milestone and its ongoing contribution to education in our region.
