Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I'd like to recognise The Sick Sense, a local organisation helping parents and children build confidence in recognising and responding to illness and emergencies. Founded by Ilana Lawrence, a paediatric clinical nurse specialist with years of experience in hospital emergency departments, The Sick Sense began as an online health resource for parents and families. It has since expanded to include in-person courses at the newly opened BCP Hub in Warners Bay, offering families access to trusted education and support all under one roof. Through its programs, parents learn how to identify when a child is seriously unwell, manage common sicknesses and injuries at home, and respond to emergencies such as choking or CPR. The organisation also runs The Sick Sense Squadrons, fun and interactive workshops for children aged three to six that use play, music and craft to teach vital lessons about germs, hygiene and what to do if they feel unwell. By turning clinical expertise into practical community education, The Sick Sense is empowering families across the Hunter to feel calm, capable and prepared when it matters most.
A Community Recognition Notice is an opportunity for an MP to submit a short statement praising the work of an individual or group in the local community. If you have any ideas about people I can recognise with a Community Recognition Notice, please email and let me know!
