Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Students from Hunter Sports High School have taken their learning beyond the classroom, rolling up their sleeves to build a wooden sailing dinghy from scratch as part of the Making Waves Foundation's Wright of Passage program. The Year 9 to 11 students participated in the program's first all-female boat-building initiative, spending one day a week over 10 weeks learning practical skills and working together to bring their vessel to life. The program provides an alternative learning environment, giving young people the opportunity to develop confidence, resilience and practical skills through hands-on experiences. From learning to use tools to navigating the challenges of boat construction, the students developed valuable skills in teamwork, communication and problem-solving. The experience also encouraged the young women to explore new interests, challenge themselves and gain confidence in their own abilities. I congratulate the participating Hunter Sports High School students on their hard work and commitment throughout the program. I also commend the Making Waves Foundation and program manager Shane Greaves for providing meaningful opportunities that empower young people, encourage personal growth and demonstrate that some of life's most valuable lessons can be learned outside the classroom.
